Itinerary
Day 1: Arba Minch – Dorze Village – Konso
Morning departure from Arba Minch. Drive to the Dorze highlands to visit the Dorze people, famous for their tall bamboo houses and traditional weaving. Learn about their lifestyle and taste local food made from enset (false banana plant).
Continue driving to Konso. Visit the Konso Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its terraced hillsides and wooden ancestral statues (Waga).
Overnight: Lodge in Konso
Day 2: Konso – Turmi – Hamer Tribe
Drive south to Turmi, passing scenic semi-arid landscapes. In the afternoon, visit a Hamer village. Meet the Hamer people, known for their unique hairstyles, body decorations, and rich cultural traditions. If available, witness a traditional ceremony such as the famous bull-jumping ritual.
Overnight: Lodge or campsite in Turmi
Day 3: Turmi – Karo Tribe – Dassanech Tribe – Turmi
Morning drive to the Omo River to visit the Karo tribe, known for elaborate body painting and riverside villages. Continue to Omorate to meet the Dassanech people near the border of Kenya.
Return to Turmi in the afternoon. Visit the colorful Turmi market if it coincides with market day.
Overnight: Lodge or campsite in Turmi
Day 4: Turmi – Arbore Tribe – Arba Minch
Drive toward Arba Minch. En route, stop to visit the Arbore tribe, known for facial scarification and bead adornments. Continue back to Arba Minch, arriving in the late afternoon.
