Itinerary
Day 1: Addis Ababa – Semera – Afdera – Erta Ale
Morning flight from Addis Ababa to Semera. Meet your team and begin the drive into the Afar region toward Afdera and Erta Ale. Continue by 4×4 vehicles through the desert landscape. In the evening, hike to the crater of Erta Ale Volcano to witness the active lava lake.
Overnight: Camping near Erta Ale
Day 2: Erta Ale – Afdera – Hamed Ela
Early morning visit to the volcano crater for sunrise views. Descend and drive toward Afdera, stopping at Afdera Lake. Continue to Hamed Ela, the gateway to the salt flats.
Overnight: Camping at Hamed Ela
Day 3: Dallol – Salt Flats – Hamed Ela
Morning excursion to the spectacular Dallol Depression, exploring its colorful mineral terraces, sulfur pools, and salt formations. Visit traditional Afar salt mining sites and walk on the salt flats. Return to Hamed Ela in the afternoon.
Overnight: Camping at Hamed Ela
Day 4: Hamed Ela – Semera – Addis Ababa
Drive back to Semera. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Addis Ababa. End of the tour.
